There are 100 official judo techniques recognized by the Kodokan Judo Institute in Japan, divided into two main categories:

  1. Nage-waza (Throwing Techniques) with 68 techniques

These techniques aim to throw the opponent to the ground.

They are divided into subcategories:

  • Te-waza (hand techniques)
  • Koshi-waza (hip techniques)
  • Ashi-waza (foot/leg techniques)
  • Sutemi-waza (sacrifice techniques)
  • Ma-sutemi-waza (rear sacrifice techniques)
  • Yoko-sutemi-waza (side sacrifice techniques)

 

       2.  Katame-waza (Grappling Techniques) with 32 techniques

These include hold-downs, joint locks, and strangles.

Subcategories:

  • Osaekomi-waza (hold-down techniques)
  • Shime-waza (strangulation techniques)
  • Kansetsu-waza (joint lock techniques)
