Judo is a martial art that emphasizes discipline, respect, and efficiency.
A judoka’s equipment reflects these values: simple, functional, and rigorous, it is designed to allow safe and fair practice.
🥋The Judogi – The Judoka’s Uniform
The judogi is the official uniform worn by judokas.
It consists of a jacket (uwagi), pants (zubon), and a belt (obi).
The judogi must be clean, in good condition, and must respect sizing standards, such as proper sleeve length and fit — especially in competition.
During competition, one judoka wears a white judogi and the other a blue judogi, making it easier to distinguish between them.
🥋The Belt – Obi
The belt indicates the judoka’s rank.
- Beginner and intermediate belts (kyu ranks):
White, yellow, orange, green, blue, and brown.
- Black belts (dan ranks):
They symbolize a high level of technical skill and advanced experience.
🥋Additional Equipment
- T-shirt (for girls only):
Worn under the jacket, must be white and without logos.
- Zori (sandals):
Worn to walk outside the tatami — never barefoot off the mats.
- Hair ties or headbands:
- Long hair must be tied back.
Hygiene: A critical part of a judoka’s equipment!
A judoka must:
- Keep nails short,
- Maintain a clean, undamaged judogi,
- Be clean themselves.
In both training and competition, this equipment promotes equality, safe practice, and reinforces good habits.
A judoka’s equipment is simple but symbolic.
It reflects the true spirit of judo: respect, cleanliness, equality, and efficiency.
A judoka is: careful, attentive, and respectful. 😀
