Beginner judo classes for children are designed to introduce kids as young as 4, 5, or 6 years old, depending on the club.
It’s all about discovering judo!
It all starts with learning the basics: our friends, the falls (ukemi), the rules of the mat (tatami), essentials like the bow (rei), and of course, the very first techniques!
It’s all about physical development through exercises that help improve coordination, balance, flexibility, and motor skills. It’s a very comprehensive activity!
Does it sound like a lot? Don’t worry! We love playing judo, so get ready to have fun while learning!
From the very first class, the moral code of judo is practiced by everyone—it’s very important.
Although judo is not considered a team sport, we’re always in contact with another person to practice. Judo is done in pairs! This adds a fantastic social aspect, teaching us to work, listen, and interact together.
It’s also the time to get introduced to supervised sparring, carefully guided by the instructors (sensei). After all, we need to put into practice what we’ve learned!
