Beware of Shidos!

The Famous Shidos! No one wants them, but very few can say they’ve never had one!
Yes… I’m talking about penalties, which exist in judo and can change everything. Shidos don’t award points, but a judoka can win a match if their opponent accumulates too many. Three, to be precise—and it can happen fast!
Let’s take a look at the reasons for receiving a Shido:
🚫 Passivity and Avoiding the Fight:
Refusing to attack (for more than 30 seconds)
🚫 Illegal Grips and Actions:
Pushing the opponent off the tatami (intentionally)
🚫 Posture and Guarding Mistakes:
Having an overly defensive posture (arms extended without attacking)
🚫 Dangerous or Unsportsmanlike Behavior:
Faking an attack (to force the opponent into making a mistake)
If you think judo matches are fast-paced and exciting, that’s largely thanks to Shidos… They keep fights dynamic and ensure judokas stay active and engaged!
